Mechagodzilla by Toygraph メカゴジラ トイグラフ

This is a standard-sized (a little over 9 inches tall) Mechagodzilla figure. It was made by Toygraph and released as a Super 7 exclusive (75 figures made worldwide). It is made of clear vinyl with blue, gold, and red metallic paint. This is the 50% transforming version (50% mecha/50% godzilla).

I really like this figure.

"Mechagodzilla (メカゴジラ Mekagojira Mecagodzilla) is a fictional character from various films in the Godzilla series, introduced in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla (1974). It is Godzilla's mechanical doppelganger and one of the most popular Toho kaiju.

"The first Mechagodzilla was created as a weapon of destruction by a race of ape-like aliens, sometimes known as Simeons or the Black Hole aliens

It first appeared in a pseudo-flesh outer covering, masquerading as the real Godzilla during attacks against Japan in Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla. Curiously, while the Simeons gave Mechagodzilla a flamethrower in his mouth to mimic Godzilla's atomic beam, they didn't bother replicating Godzilla's unique roar. Godzilla's dinosaur friend Anguirus wasn't fooled by the impostor. Mechagodzilla ripped of his tongue, and sent him fleeing underground. The battle went badly for Anguirus, but tipped humanity off to the charade.

Soon the true Godzilla appeared and exposed his rival's metallic form completely. Interestingly, after losing its disguise, Mechagodzilla's fingers lost all mobility. (No explanation for this was ever given.) The battle resulted in a tie, however, and in the end it took the combined might of Godzilla and King Caesar to remove Mechagodzilla's head from its shoulders, ending the threat.

The Simeons rebuilt their dreadnought for another try in Terror of Mechagodzilla one year later. Having learned the value of teamwork firsthand, the Simeons called in an old debt to pair Mechagodzilla with the aquatic dinosaur Titanosaurus. (Any reasoning as to why they did not bother to recruit Titanosaurus in the first film is never mentioned, though they may have simply thought that Mechagodzilla was more than a match for Godzilla in the first place, making the extra help unnecessary.)

This time, there were some modifications to it, including moving Mechagodzilla's brain down into its neck so it could function unimpaired with its head completely removed. Godzilla's perseverance combined with the timely self-sacrifice of Mechagodzilla's operator brought the machine down for good. The King of the Monsters buried Mechagodzilla's shattered form deep underground to prevent another repair job, and since this was the final film of the original Godzilla series, he was successful."

メカゴジラとは、映画『ゴジラ』シリーズに度々登場する、文字通りゴジラを模した架空のロボットのこと。
作品によって、設定は異なるものの、ゴジラを倒す事を目的に製作された点が共通している。その時代のロボットや機械に対するイメージがデザインに影響されている。

初代メカゴジラ。
ブラックホール第3惑星人の操る地球侵略用兵器としてゴジラをモデルに作られた。この当時のメカゴジラは鉄板を継ぎ接ぎしたようなデザインであり、いかにも機械という見た目をしている。富士山の火口から出現、ゴジラに偽装しアンギラスを倒し暴れ回った。玉泉洞深くのコントロールセンターから遠隔操作で動かされる。
ゴジラとキングシーサーを苦しめたが、 ICPO の捜査官らによってコントロールセンターを破壊されて行動不能に陥り、首をゴジラに破壊され、沖縄の海底に沈んだ。
スーツアクターは森一成（『メカゴジラの逆襲』でもメカゴジラIIを担当）。

スペースビーム：目から発射される虹色の溶解光線。ゴジラの熱線と同等の威力がある。
デストファイヤー：鼻からの火炎放射（劇中では一度も使用されていない）。
フィンガーミサイル：指そのものが強力なミサイルになっている（劇中の描写から、徹甲弾としても使用可能だと思われる）。また二代目の物は先端が鋭くなっており、回転ミサイルになっており破壊力が増している。
クロスアタックビーム：胸部装甲が開き、高電圧破壊光線を発射する。
ディフェンスネオバリヤー：頭部を回転させ、周囲に円筒形のバリヤーを張る。なお一度バリヤーが発生すると、頭部の回転が止まっても持続する。
ホーミューショット：膝に装備されたミサイル。
ハイプレッシャーホーミング：足の指もミサイルになっている。
その他二代目には、二重構造の頭部にレーザー発射装置、手足の甲にミサイルが追加されている。また、両機共通で非公式ながら、口部にもミサイルが内蔵されている。
