Agon is part of Dream Rocket’s Akakage (Red Shadow) kaiju series. The Akakage series is based on kaiju that appeared in the Masked Ninja Red Shadow TV series that was produced by Toei Company Ltd., aired on KTV and Fuji TV from April 5, 1967 to March 27, 1968, with a total of 52 episodes (divided into four segments). This was Toei's first color tokusatsu superhero show. The TV show is variously referred to as “Masked Ninja Red Shadow,” “Red Shadow: The Masked Ninja,” and “Kamen no Ninja Akakage” (仮面の忍者　赤影) .



In the show, the masked ninja Red Shadow (Akakage) and his sidekicks Blue and White Shadow save ancient Japan from evil. Akakage is a the best swordsman of the three and a master of disguise. The crystal in his mask fires an energy beam.

The figures featured in Dream Rocket’s Akakage kaiju series all appeared in Episode 38: Mysterious Patience Animal Array (featuring the following six large monstrous beasts: ganda, gabari, agon, dogma, gatsupo and jiyako). (怪忍獣勢揃い（再生六大怪獣＝ガ ンダ、ガバリ、アゴン、ドグマ、ガッポ、ジャコー）The individual monsters also appeared in other episodes, either alone or with others.

Also known as "Kamen no ninja Aka-Kage", "Masked Ninja Akakage" or "Masked Ninja Red Shadow".

「根来篇　甲虫怪獣　アゴン ・身長　１８ｍ　　体重　１２００ｔ ・虫寄せ風葉の奏でるオカリナ（３２話では草笛）の音で巨大化する。 ・角から発する光線は相手を痺れさせ動けなくする。 ・口から吐く泡状の液体で、さらに相手の身動きを封じ込める。 お待ちかね（ですよね？）のアゴン登場です。 赤影４部作の中で地味な印象がある根来篇ですが、最後まで飽きさせず見せた要因の一つ は、 中盤を大いに盛り上げた二人のくの一　風葉と矢尻の功名心争いと　このアゴンとドグマの 対決であることは間違いないことでしょう。 特に二匹が対決する３３話はその他にも印象に残るカッコいいシーンが幾つもあります。 赤い三日月をバックにシルエットで登場する虫寄せ風葉や、その後の　風葉の指パッチンを 合図に白影に襲いかかる下人達、 同時にお馴染みのアクションＢＧＭがかかる件は感涙ものです。 さらに、信長と青影が登った火の見櫓に炎を吐きながら襲い来るドグマのシーンで、 赤影の「アゴォン　頼むぞ！」の声と共に画面手前下からせり上がるアゴンの角！ いかにもアゴン起動開始！という感じで大興奮です。 ちなみに、このアゴンとドグマの対決シーンですが、３３話ではドグマのテーマ曲（！？） が使われていますが、 総集編的な３８話では　お馴染みのアクションシーンのＢＧＭで再編集されています。 （このＢＧＭでの怪獣同士の対決は魔風篇の「ががら対ざばみ」をいやがうえでも期待させ ますよね） アクの強いドグマを相手に奮闘したアゴンは、まさに「赤影」を代表する怪獣と言ってもい いでしょう。 どことなく人なつっこさを感じさせるマルッこい体形や、無表情な顔が 逆にアゴンというキャラクターを際立たせている点などが人気がある所以ではないでしょう か。 今回のソフビ人形では、顎の下にある着ぐるみの中の役者さんの為の のぞき窓のようなモノは怪獣に敬意をはらい、モールドしていません。 デフォルメであろうがリアルであろうが、目立たないようにしているモノを敢えて作るよう な無粋なことはしたくありません。 確かにどこまで作るか、という境界線は難しいものがありますけど・・・ ドリロケのアゴンソフビ、楽しんで頂けたら幸いです。」

Gumous by Dream Rocket ドリームロケット 宇虫怪獣グモーズ

This is the Max Toy limited edition of the Gumous by Dream Rocket (Japan) and Shono Kikaku. In fact, it was the first figure offered for sale by Max Toy and was limited to only 20 numbered pieces. It came in a bag with a header card. (The Gumous figure in a different colorway was also the first figure produced by Dream Rocket.)

Beautiful GID (glow-in-the-dark) vinyl. It is about 10 inches tall.

I believe that this is my favorite colorway of this very cool figure.

Information about this figure from the Dream Rocket site indicates (I think!) that the Gumous chrysalis was discovered on Mars in what seemed to be fossilized form. It was brought back to Earth, and, when subjected to radiation at the space science center, it came alive, grew to a giant monster of about 130 feet tall, and started going on the rampage.

It also appears that the idea for the Gumous monster was developed by its creator over a period of 30 years, starting with preliminary sketches in elementary school, later refined in middle school, and ultimately being realized in kaiju toy form at last, something the creator never really dreamed would happen.

Please don't hesitate to correct me if my interpretation is incorrect!

・モンスターファイル・第3話　グモーズのさなぎ 火星の地下で発見された化石が地球に運び込まれてきた。 しかしその中には、 仮死状態になっていた宇宙昆虫グモーズのさなぎも含まれてい た。 宇宙科学センターで放射線を浴びたさなぎは永い眠りからさめ宇虫怪獣に変貌。 40mに成長したグモーズは街を破壊し始める。 宇虫怪獣　グモーズ ・身長40m　　体重1万t ・6本の腕で獲物を捕獲し、頭からバリバリ食べる。 ・腕の爪は鋼鉄でも簡単に引き裂く。 ・口から緑色の毒液を吐く。 ドリームロケットの初商品! デビュー作!!感無量であります。 ともかく目立とうと思い可動する腕を6本付けました。 おかげで製作費が　予定よりもUPしてしまいました。 ですが、この時の情熱や勢いは　忘れずにいたいものです。 グモーズの原案は、小学1,2年の時の　お絵書きノートで生まれました。この時はまだ　 腕も2本で羽もなく虫の怪獣ではありませんでした。 その後も、中学の時のノートや、バイト先の店の伝票や、社会人になってからも　書類 の端に幾度となく姿を変えながら現れたものです。 考えてみたら、コイツとは30年以上のつきあいになります。 コイツも　自分がソフビ人形になるとは、夢にも思っていなかったでしょう。

Max Toy Captain Max, Kikaida, and Gumos

These are the Captain Max and Kikaida figures I have so far gathered together for a quick shot on the kitchen table. I am missing the two Kaiju-Taro versions and the Gargamel version of Captain Max. I am also missing the all red unpainted Kikaida. I think that's it.

Also shown with the group is the Max Toy edition of the Dream Rocket Gumos (GID vinyl).

I will post my collection of Alien Xam finger-puppets another time (I think that I have all of those that have been released so far).
